Food choices at Disney World…Did I miss something important?

Posted in Animal Kingdom Lodge Dining  by admin on September 29th, 2008

So, I am going for 10 days in April but am making my reservations now. I have decided on: Cinderella's Royal Table, SciFi Restaurant, Akershus Royal Banquet, Boma, Mayan Grill, Narcoosee's, Coral Reef, and Spirit of Aloha. Let me know if I am missing any of your favorites!! I need to make reservations here soon. Also, can you make reservations with the restaurant before you book your "Magic Your Way" Package?? Thanks!!

You have some really good choices. Personally, I'd go for the Prime Time '50's Cafe over the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (both are at Disney/MGM Studios), but that's just me. I think you're really going to like Cinderella's Royal Table and the Akershus Royal Banquet — every time my wife and I have eaten at either one we've had a very good experience.

Here is a list of restaurants we have visited and really liked:

Liberty Tree Tavern (Magic Kingdom)
Le Cellier (EPCOT - Canada)
Rose and Crown Pub (EPCOT - United Kingdom)
Biergarten (EPCOT - Germany)
Flying Fish Restaurant (Disney Boardwalk)
Chef Mickey's (Contemporary Resort)
California Grill (Contemporary Resort)
Restaurantosaurus (Animal Kingdom)
'Ohana (Polynesian Resort)
Whispering Canyon Cafe (Wilderness Lodge Resort)
Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club Resort)

Chef Mickey's and Restaurantosaurus have the best character breakfasts you'll find.

Here is a list of restaurants we were really disappointed with, or used to like and their food and service aren't so great anymore:

Originale Ristorante di Alfredo (EPCOT - Italy)
Teppanyaki Dining Room (EPCOT - Japan)
Les Chefs de France (EPCOT - France)
Rainforest Cafe (Downtown Disney and Animal Kingdom)
Fulton's Crab House (Downtown Disney)
House of Blues (Disney West Side)
Hollywood Brown Derby (Disney-MGM Studios)

Not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure you have to specify that you're using your "Magic Your Way" package when you make reservations. Call 1-407-W-DISNEY and ask. They should be able to tell you one way or the other.

I recommend Tony's Town Square on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom. The prices are VERY reasonable during lunch time. We paid close to the same we would have paid at Olive Garden. The pizzas are excellent (Tony's pizza and the Pizza Bianca). Don't miss the pineapple Dole Whips in Adventureland (pineapple vanilla swirls are the best).

O'hana is my favorite!!! I'm not sure if the Spirit of Aloha is the same or similar, but O'Hana is not to be missed.
Yes, you can your reservations before booking. You don't have to have a Magic Your Way Package to make a meal reservation. Think about all those people who come to the parks and don't have the package, or who live in Orlando area and visit those (non-park) restaurants just for dinner. So, yes, make your reservations now! Good luck!

California Grill, Artist Point, 1900 Park Fare, Liberty Tree Tavern, Tony's, Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Whispering Canyon Cafe are other you may want to consider. Disney World will tell you they do not take reservations, they schedule Priority Seating. You can book 180 days before your arrival, and they do ask for you reservation number.

wow you really want to spend alot. i reccomend you pick a little less, because i have been to disney 8 times and i will tell you now that sometimes you just want to stay in the parks. you won't be able to actually do anything, because you will always be going to restraunts for ever because you have to get their early, and then you rae there from 2-3 hours. if you are gonna do that than just don't buy park tickets, because you will never be able to do anything in the park! you should just eat at:
    - spirit of aloha!
    - sci-fi dine in theatre
    - BOMA!
    - the coral reef
-cinderella's table (if you are going with kids)

the mayan grill, narcoosees, and akershus suck. i have done them all. you ahould also try to get over to the beach club for their clam bake, and then walk to epcot for fireworks and spectating and try liberty tree tavern, the food is very friendly and is really good. make sue to eat at spirit of aloha though, at the end they give you bread pudding with banna foster sauce! yum! and at the sci-fi ask for a light up ice cube in your drink! AND MAKE SURE YOU MAKE RESERVATIONS, OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EAT AT ANY OF THESE PLACES!!!
hope that helped, im going in februrary, have fun!

Yes, you can book reservations before your package and for popular ones like Cinderella's Royal Table and le Cellier, you need to call at the 180 day mark.

Don't forget if you are booking the regular dining plan that restaurants like Cindrella's Table, Narcooseeses, Citricos, California grill, Artist Point, Spirit of Aloha, Hoop-de-doo etc take 2 meal credits. If you are on the deluxe plan this may not be as big of a deal, but the 2 credit meals do use up credits more quickly for the table-service meals.

I'd go with 50's Primetime over the Sci-Fi. Kona is excellent- I'd pick that over Coral Reef- although the aquarium is a nice setting.
