Eating Healthy in Disney World
Hi! I was wondering if I can get some tips on eating healthy at Disney World. My family got the dining plan ( 1 counter service, 1 table service and 1 snack per day) We already have our table services reserved, here is where we are going:
Rose & Crown Pub @ EPCOT
Liberty Tree Tavern @ MK
Boma @ Animal Kingdom Lodge
50’s Prime Time Cafe @ MGM
Crystal Palace Breakfast @ MK
Tony’s Town Square @ MK
and Le Cellier @ EPCOT
Does anyone know how I can eat healthier here? Any suggestion of places that sell fruit, or healthy snacks, or healthier counter services? Thanks in advance.
Disney is wonderful about working with guests at the restaurants. I would look at the vegetarian options first, they are usually very good and lighter than the other menu items. Also, if the menu has meat or fish, you can always ask for it grilled and with any sauce on the side. Look for salads or veggies for side items. Ask for dressing on the side and ask for no oil or butter on the veggies.
Finally, you are on vacation. Save some calories for the fun food too!

I found that most often at the sit-down restaurants, the vegetarian options are extremely healthy. Try to stick to waters and fruits as often as possible.

well as a 22 yr old that has done the dining plan i can tell you that you really aren’t going to find a lot of healthy choices. for example:
crystal palace is a buffet that is filled with tons of appetizing yet unhealthy choices some vegies but alot of fryed food as well.
or
liberty tree tavern i got the snadwich heard round the world which happens to no longer be on the menu. its a penini that has turkey, bacon, mayo, letus, and tomatoe on it. its not really healthy plus you can get fryed cheese sticks and the deserts are sooo good but bad for your diet.
50’s prime time cafe servers items like a HUGE cheese burger and fries and then a desert like cheese cake.
personally i’d say that the kids foods are way healthier. my niece gets to choose from things like a fruit salad, yogourt, garden salads, sureburt, juice, strawberry smoothy, much healthier choices. problem is she’d rather have my food and i’d rather have hers but she doesn’t like very much of the adult food so she ends up eating mac and cheese off the kids menu or when my or my sister switch meals with her so we can have healthier choices she will only eat chicken strips off the adult menu so then she isn’t eating healthy either way.
but yeah there are sooo many healthy choice on the kids menu that aren’t on the adult menu.

You can always ask your waiter to point out any healthier choices, or ask if any of the dishes can be made a little differently. Disney is great to cater to your wishes.

As you have already read, it will be hard but you can do it-vegetarian menu, talk to the wait staff, dressing on the side. As for your snacks-stick to the fruit stands (an apple is one snack credit vs. the dole whip, bag of chips, or Mickey Ice Cream Bar. The carts are everywhere! Stay away from the Turkey legs, too!! Or pull the fat and skin off it! So tasty, though!
In the Contemporary Resort, on the 4th floor, there are two new “healthy eating choices”. The Wave is a casual eating, table service that offers a lot of great alternatives-all healthy! (Whole wheat linguini with fresh basil, tomato, clam marinara-etc. Okay, it’s wholewheat spaghetti with tomato sause-but didn’t it sound better the other way?), there is also a new counter service sandwich/soup place up there-it took the place of the Concourse Steak House. Serve wraps (get dressing on the side, again).
I also freeze 20 oz bottles of water & slip them along with some of those “Crystal Light” or “Special K” diet drink packs (they are shaped like a little mint pack or straw) in my backpack. Saves money and calories because I’m not buying sodas.
